On St George’s Day, the morning of the county fair, Johnny “Rooster” Byron is a wanted man. The Council want to evict him, his son wants taking to the fair, his ex’s boyfriend wants revenge, and a motley crew of mates just want his supply of drink and drugs. Set in a single woodland clearing, Jez Butterworth conjures a wild, anarchic meditation on English identity, the clash of tradition and modernity, and the search for belonging.

Since it stormed the Royal Court in 2009, Jerusalem has won Best Play at both the Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Awards. Time Out named it the key British theatre work of the last decade.
